Despite a meteoric fall from grace, former Rep. Anthony Weiner has friends who believe he needs to be running for public office again, this time as Mayor of New York City. Former Mayoral GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa claims he is one of many Weiner supporters encouraging him to run again. “He has been encouraged to run for office by me and others… to be the moderate Democrat, to be what this city needs now to take it back from [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez]. He knows the moderate path to save the city.”
Twelve years after Weiner “accidentally” exposed himself on Twitter, his claims of being hacked fell on deaf ears then and are still comedic to people across the nation. Before his passing, Breitbart News founder Andrew Breitbart pushed the news on his website at a time when the mainstream media ate up his excuse at face value.
This change away from the mainstream narrative proved to pay off, with major outlets changing their tune in record time, no thanks to Breitbart’s amazing dedication to seeing the scandal through to the end. If he had not died in February 2012, he certainly would have much more to add to the case now.
Back when it first occurred, the outlet gave the American people what they needed to turn the tide. As more damning photo evidence emerged, they proved that not only did the Representative know what he was doing, but he sent these kinds of images to multiple women while married. As Clinton proved, that didn’t matter as much as his decision to lie about it, and expected the people of New York to still trust him.
It’s that sentiment right there that makes his decision to even consider running for office again even more laughable.
Yet that didn’t stop him in 2013 when he tried putting “Weinergate” (as it became known) behind him and running for Mayor of New York City. Quickly his history of sexting women as alter-ego Carlos Danger emerged, with 22-year-old Sydney Leathers gaining quite a name for herself off his adulterous actions.
Then in 2017, he was busted for sending obscene material to a 15-year-old girl. Sentenced to 21 months in federal prison, he was released in May 2019, and ordered to register as a Level 1 sex offender.
Despite living rather quietly since then, he has made dips into the public eye and wants everyone to just forgive and forget. Unfortunately for him, that’s not the world we live in. His past crimes will continue to stay with him, and he will continue to pay for this, and rightfully so. While the lies to his family and the people of NY were bad enough, his sending of indecent material to someone underage makes it much worse.
Should NYC even allow this man on the ballot it will send a dangerous signal to Americans everywhere. It would be telling them that we as a nation are done protecting our children. That those who look to steal their laughter and innocence will be allowed to continue living with no lasting implications on their life.
That’s not the American way, actions have consequences, and some of them are long-lasting.
Weiner has proven that he has not learned a thing from his scandals. Instead, he has proven that NYC has truly evolved into becoming just like LA. The rich and famous can get away with whatever they want. Provided they pay their indulgence to Soros and kiss the ring of course.
People like Anthony Weiner do not learn their lesson simply from a quick 21-month visit to a resort federal prison. They don’t learn it from paying fines or losing elections. They learn it by losing their money, and status, and having to live like a nobody. He never got that, and he damn sure doesn’t need to get another chance at getting it back as even a candidate for NYC Mayor.
Politics needs to be like women’s athletics- no Weiner’s allowed.
