Democrats’ Desperate Attempt to Fix Their Insane Image—Spoiler: It’s Not Working
Some Democrats are starting to realize that if they want to win elections, they might want to stop pushing away working-class voters—those folks without fancy degrees who actually make up most of the electorate. And maybe—just maybe—the way to do this is to stop acting completely bonkers. Shockingly, some of them are trying, but overall, their attempts to seem less insane just highlight how stubbornly out of touch they really are.
Take the Democratic state chairs’ meeting in Phoenix earlier this month. They kicked things off with a “land acknowledgment,” which is basically an apology for being on land that was allegedly “stolen” from Native Americans. Oh, and Jaime Harrison, the DNC chair, wasted no time attacking critics who want the party to stop obsessing over “identity politics.” Meanwhile, Judson Scanlon, the director of a PAC that once sold “White Dudes for Harris” merchandise, decided to take a shot at MSNBC. If you were expecting a rational, level-headed conversation, well, you probably weren’t at this meeting.
Then there’s Tim Walz, the VP nominee who tried to woo male voters by donning camo hats, pretending to hunt, and playing video games with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. After losing in 2024, he had an epiphany: the American people actually like racism? Apparently, his takeaway from the election defeat is that America is leaning toward embracing exclusion. Walz’s “bright” observation came after Trump built the most inclusive Republican coalition ever—clearly, he’s got his finger on the pulse of the nation.
And let’s not even get started on the Democrats’ melodramatic reactions to a Marine vet getting acquitted after defending himself and others on a subway. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a rising star in the party, declared it was a “green light for more violence against unarmed Black Americans,” while Rep. Jamaal Bowman used the verdict to once again bash “White People” and “white supremacy.” Because, sure, that makes total sense.
Some Democrats, like Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, are attempting to distance themselves from the madness. But don’t hold your breath for too much rationality, especially when even Elizabeth Warren thinks people might just start taking matters into their own hands after being pushed too far. Because, you know, that’s totally the message voters are looking for right now.
