By now, it’s no secret that most media outlets aren’t just about reporting the news. Nowadays, it’s pretty much a given that any media organization is based on one political side or another.

And it seems the swing state of Maine just had its media taken over by the left. In particular, anti-American billionaire George Soros has taken over.

According to Semafor, about two dozen of Maine’s local and smaller daily and weekly newspapers have just been bought out by the National Trust for Local News, backed by George Soros’Open Society Foundation and leftist philanthropist Hansjorg Wyss.

Now, at first look, this might not seem like much of a big deal. However, it’s important to note that Maine has long been somewhat of a swing state.

While the state has elected Republican officials like GOP Senator Susan Collins, its governor is currently a Democrat, Janet Mills. And Biden was by far the favorite in 2020.

However, with Biden’s policies proving not so trustworthy and rather destructive, the fear is that fewer and fewer Mainers will choose Biden or the Democratic left in the upcoming 2024 election.

Enter George Soros and his progressive-pushing foundations…

As Semafor reported, Soros and Wyss provided millions for The Trust to take over these small media outlets.

Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean that these outlets will suddenly become outwardly left-leaning ones. As a journalism professor and media historian, Michael Socolow notes, “The person who writes the checks is ultimately less important than the quality of the news provided.”

And to be sure, there is some merit to that.

However, wealthy elites like Soros don’t have a problem wielding their power to influence the businesses under them. In fact, both he and Wyss already have quite the reputation for that.

And as Semafor’s author writes, the fact that “relatively few big donors” have gone in on this won’t make anyone trust the media anymore.

What do you think? Will Maine suddenly become more left-leaning via this move?
