A father of three has been jailed in Kellogg, Idaho, for allegedly shooting a pervert to death. This comes several days after local law enforcement failed to do anything to protect the community from the pervert, who had exposed himself to children while masturbating (Happy Pride Month, Everyone!).
The father, frustrated by the inaction of police, allegedly kicked in the pervert’s door and then shot the pervert’s entire family to death. Four people are dead, and Major Jon “Major” Kaylor has been charged with their deaths.
This story has largely been pieced together by Facebook posts that were written in the days leading up to the shooting. The pervert who was shot to death was 18-year-old Devin Smith. Smith recently graduated from Kellogg High School. He had a reputation for being a weirdo and a pervert. Smith was caught masturbating in class one time in front of other students, and he only received a two-day in-school suspension, according to reports.
Classmates say that in middle school, Devin Smith had his school-issued Chromebook taken away from him for trying to look up child porn. They also say he used to try to inappropriately touch the girls in school, who were all wary of him. One former classmate of Smith’s wrote on Facebook, “No matter how many times we told the school about the disgusting things he did, the school never did anything.”
Devin Smith’s family recently moved into the downstairs half of the home that the Kaylor family lived in. Devin Smith immediately began creeping out Kaylie Kaylor, the wife of Major. She wrote on Facebook that the two families now had a backyard in common. Whenever her two young daughters went outside to play in the backyard, Devin Smith would come out on the back porch and sit in a chair, watching them.
Kaylie was playing outside with her daughters a few weeks ago when one of the girls told her “the boy” – meaning Devin Smith – was in the window. Kaylie was trying to be polite by not looking at the window and telling her daughter it was fine because they lived there. Then the daughter exclaimed, “No mom, the boy, he’s shaking his penis!”
“This dude was staring out the window directly at my girls and I and beating his d#$% off,” she wrote on Facebook. “I saw his naked body jump up on his bunk bed and scoot back.”
She says Devin Smith had climbed up on a chair or a desk or something to make sure that he was fully exposed to the two little girls. They called the police, but nothing happened. She says the police questioned Smith, and then the cops suggested that the little girls were mad at him about something.
Enraged, Kaylie Kaylor found a graduation picture of Devin Smith and posted it on her Facebook page to try to warn others in the community. “This is the sicko who made eye contact with my daughter while masturbating and exposing himself. His name is Devin and he is 18.”
Dozens of people in the community began complaining on Facebook about their creepy encounters with Devin Smith. They were warning each other to keep their kids away from him and hoping that the police would finally do something about him now that Smith was an adult. But the police never did anything.
Smith started masturbating in front of Kaylie and Major’s children again over the weekend. A neighbor left this message on Facebook about what happened next:
“Peeping pedophiles. Tried for a week to get help from the cops. The cops wouldn’t help. Guy did it again today and the dad of the girls went over and shot the guy’s entire family. 4 people dead.”
Not quite the Father’s Day story we had hoped to share, but the police have to learn to do something about pedophiles like Smith.
